For The Sake of Art
Qatar Art Center | Doha – Qatar
March – April 2019

In collaboration with University College London-Qatar, Museum and Gallery Practice MA students. Participation in curatorial and design teams.

Since opening its doors in 1995, the Qatar Art Center has been a place that enables artists to work freely and without restrictions. Some of the art created in the first art residency in Qatar now fills the galleries at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. The Center has, and continues to host, a multitude of prominent Arab artists and is a place where these artists can experiment as well as develop new approaches to making art.

The exhibition features works of art by Dia Al-Azzawi, Yousef Ahmad, Nazar Yahya and founder of the Center Sheikh Hassan Al-Thani. It explores how these artworks came to be and highlights the influences the artists have on each other. The Qatar Art Center is an active, ever changing and evolving space. Art may leave its walls, but the memories of the creating process remains. It is these memories, this ´making of art´ that this exhibition highlights.
